PRESS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE PUBLICATION

HURT & PAIN EP – HASHTAG

RELEASE DATE: 26th August 2012

At the moment, the Hashtag name won’t mean anything to you. When you
find out that it’s the new production moniker for Erb n Dub and KG,
though, that means a lot. These two guys have spent the last few years
becoming essential components of the drum and bass world. Between
them, they’ve remixed DJ Fresh, The Freestylers and Foreign Beggars,
built three labels, signed Netsky and Fred V & Grafix, and DJ’d and
performed live all over the world. That’s alongside the small matter
of consistently producing dancefloor-destroying records.

Their first release after signing exclusively to Technique Recordings,
the ìHurt & Pain EPî lays out the blueprint of what these two
producers are all about. The title track weaves a soulful vocal sample
and haunting melodies around sharp beats and expansive bass textures.
This is a tune to make ravers float away on a hit of pure music vapour.

Next up is ìParalysisî, which seems to offer a similar vibe in the
wandering-cloud intro before flipping the vibe and bringing the
thunderstorm. Hashtag throw it down hard into a grimy bassline, ghost
story riffs and snappy beats that are guaranteed to cause full-on
skank-out action.

Then we have ìTake Controlî. This delivers an tension-filled intro and
explosive drop that’s precision-tooled rewind material. With
expertly-crafted stabs and builds, to take the energy levels
increasingly skyward, this is the sound of Hashtag stamping their
authority on the dancefloor.

Finally, Hashtag reveal another secret weapon with a dubstep reworking
of ìHurt & Painî. Keeping the same atmospheric, tuneful motifs as the
D&B version, the slower tempo lets the low-end really come to the
forefront.

Erb n Dub and KG have proven their credentials individually, and now
they’ve formed Hashtag, this elite unit is set to hit raves and
airwaves hard.

Hailing from Bratislava in Slovakia, D&B producer L Plus has already
forged an enviable career as a DJ and producer. Since signing
exclusively to Technique Recordings in 2011, he’s been honing his
unique sound, with releases like his “Time Travel” EP, “Catastrophe”,
and remixes for scene luminaries like Crissy Criss and Tantrum Desire.

This style is evident in this release. The title track sets out L
Plus’s blueprint straight away, with sweeping atmospherics cut with
strong vocal hooks. The bass hits hard, but it’s the melody that
drives the tune, evoking the early days of rave while maintaining
precision-tooled production quality.

Next, “Taking Me Higher” moves even further into old skool euphoria.
The beautiful vocal and filtered strings of the intro, swooping into a
instant-classic riff, offer a perfect lighters-in-the-air moment.
After an epic drop, L Plus twists things up with another of his
trademarks, a half-speed breakdown allowing the harmonies he’s
created to shine through.

As the name suggests, “Challenger” goes harder. L Plus is a master of
atmosphere, and here he shows off this skill to build tension. His
high-end patterns blend and contort until the drop, when he throws
down a complex array of synth-work to send ravers crazy.

The last track, “Close To You”, takes us back in time again.
Mid-nineties spacey sounds are held together with the eponymous vocal
sample. Percussive stabs and building drums introduce the low-end
which sparks the track into life, which L Plus balances with his
customary melodic work.

This EP shows exactly what L Plus can do. He’s a true music producer,
not a “beat-maker”, able to manipulate melodies and vocals as easily
as he can twist up a bassline. Add this to his calling-card soaring
atmospherics and it’s clear that these tracks are equally capable of
blowing up dances and airwaves.

1. Amazing
2. Taking Me Higher
3. Challenger
4. Close To You

Production duo Tantrum Desire are veteran innovators of the modern
drum and bass scene. Having been making moves in the game since the
early noughties, they caught the eye of Technique bosses Drumsound &
Bassline Smith in 2008 and really stepped up a gear. Fast-forward to today
and they’re in demand as DJs all over the world, they’ve built up an impressive
back catalogue of remixes and original productions, and all their tunes get
heavy rotation on the radio and in the clubs. Their rise isn’t showing any
signs of stopping either.

This release, which is already getting dropped regularly by Friction
on Radio 1 and Hype on Kiss 100, emphasises their diverse influences.
“Get With It” is a guaranteed floor-filler from beginning to end. It builds
layers of percussive synths and drums, including the classic Amen break,
into a drop designed to drive ravers crazy. But it still has more to offer.
Tantrum Desire push their synth-manipulation to increasing heights to
give an evolving sound that doesn’t let up.

“Reach”, like Tantrum Desire themselves, already has a proven reputation.
The original version has already created a huge buzz,in no small part down
to the hundreds of thousands of views the video has on YouTube. The VIP mix
takes the original and forcibly injects it with a hypodermic full of steroids.
The euphoric intro is still there, but now it’s the calm before the storm of a
drop that’s a guaranteed screw-up-your-face moment for anyone who loves bass.

Then, we’re treated to two more twists on the same theme with the
Dubstep Tease and the tempo-switching madness of the D&B Dubstep Tease versions.

These tunes show just what Tantrum Desire are all about. They draw on
sounds from across the musical spectrum and expertly sculpt them into
drum and bass dancefloor bombs. This release will hit hard across the
airwaves or in the dance, wherever high-energy bass music is appreciated.

Crissy Criss – Let Go Ep (Includes L Plus ‘More Than Ever’ VIP mixes)

February 27, 2012 - 8:50 am No Comments

If you know anything about dubstep or drum and bass, you’ll know
about Crissy Criss. He’s been at the forefront of the scene since he
was a teenager and, more recently, has been bringing basslines to
the masses through his weekly 1Xtra show.
The main mix of Let Go is the one for the 140 bpm crew. Weaving
together old skool sounds, including the classic Amen break, Crissy
builds an early nineties hands-in-the-air intro before dropping into a
full-on dubstep tear-out.

And, as if that wasn’t enough, there’s more to love on this release. The D&B Rollers Mix takes up
the tempo to full drum and bass speed, with floating liquid sounds expertly tempered by a
rough-edged low-end. Then, we have a remix from Technique’s recent signing L Plus, twisting up
the original’s sounds into a half-time D&B excursion. Finally, Mr Criss’s More Than Ever swaps the
euphoria of the title track for some good old-fashioned grimy bass and beats to make hardcore
D&B ravers screw up their faces.

This release is even more evidence that Crissy Criss has feet planted firmly in both junglist and
dubstepper camps. He’s got his finger on the pulse of both genres, so this is clearly music that
every bass-conscious DJ needs to be drawing for.

Tracklisting:
1. Crissy Criss – Let Go
2. Crissy Criss – Let Go (D&B Rollers Mix)
3. Crissy Criss – Let Go (L Plus Remix)
4. Crissy Criss – More Than Ever (VIP Mix)

Out Now – Crossfire EP ( 2db, Tantrum Desire, Dub Foundation,Dushi,L Plus & Erb n Dub ) Technique Recordings

January 15, 2012 - 8:41 am No Comments

Crossfire EP – Various Artists – Out Jan 15th 2012

Drumsound & Bassline Smith, Technique’s label bosses turn the spotlight onto a hand-picked selection of other producers in this EP. While remaining unashamedly D&B, these six tunes draw on additional influences of dubstep and electro to show off new facets to the genre. From the opening low-end salvoes of 2DB’s VIRUS, and into Tantrum Desire’s expert synth-manipulation in Uncontrolled, all the way to the final track,Replica by Erb N Dub & L Plus, we see multiple styles effortlessly twisted into the breakbeat and bassline paradigm. Along the way, we’re treated to a solo workout from L Plus in the form of Gas Grenade, a female perspective from Technique newcomer Dushi in Candarel, and Dub Foundation’s Atlantic, a departure from their usual style. Overall, this EP is a blueprint for bass-heavy music going into 2012. And, given that Technique’s releases have consistently received Radio 1 and 1Xtra airplay from the likes of Zane Lowe, Annie Mac, Fabio & Grooverider, and Annie Nightingale, it’s easy to see that these tracks are going to become a mainstay of raves and airwaves too.

Tracklist

1. 2DB – VIRUS
2. Tantrum Desire – Uncontrolled
3. L Plus – Gas Grenade
4. Dushi – Candarel
5. Dub Foundation – Atlantic
