Demo & Cease’s Ladies Night has already been an anthem twice over and now it’s back for the hat-trick. It earned its stripes as a general-purpose weapons-grade rave-killing dubplate in the sets of top echelon selectors. Then, in 2007, it dropped on general release, taking out a whole new wave of parties with the fallout. And now it’s time for round three, in the form of a transatlantic team-up between Technique Recordings and Human Imprint. We spoke to one of the track’s original creators, Demo, to find out what he’s up to these days.

Where are you right now and what have we stopped you doing?!
I’m in my living room preparing for our 17th-year anniversary show with Artificial Intelligence we have at the Baltic Room tonight.

What did you think when you first heard the Drumsound & Bassline Smith had remixed Ladies Night?
I got the news in an email with a link, gave it a listen and I was in it!

What do you remember about the making of Ladies Night?
I don’t remember much about making it besides thinking it needed a real fluffy intro!

Tell us more about how you approach remixing someone else’s track…
I’ve only remixed one tune before so I don’t really have an approach.

What track would you love to have the stems of for a remix?
I’d love to get the stems to Spirit’s Solitaire.

I understand you were in a serious car crash a few years ago, what can you tell us about your road to recovery?
It’s been a slow process, but I’ve had tons of support from everyone.

You’re now back in the studio, what can you tell us about the sort of stuff you’re making and how can we hear it?
I’ve been making a lot of half beat stuff and I’ve toned it down quite a bit. I’m still trying to find what really gets me moving so stay tuned as it should be interesting.

Got any forthcoming releases you’d like to plug?
I have an EP with my homie Hoffa forthcoming on Onset Audio, and a collaboration tune with Homemade Weapons on his 117 single.

How has your approach to making music changed over the years?
I’ve been using a lot more synths versus samples.

Ladies Night VIP is exclusively available now from Beatport and all stores from 20 November.
